ALUMINUM TABLE

At once monumental and informal, this table is the central element in a spacious downtown loft, made to serve both large groups and intimate gatherings.

The 3.5’ x 10’ table consists of two parts, each with an aluminum leg and cantilevered glass top, which are joined on site. By taking into account dimensional and material constraints, the design celebrates the meeting of the two halves. The middle of the table reveals the joint where the two metal supports connect, as well as the gap between the glass pieces. The seam enables the table to function as a larger surface, but also maintains the memory of the assembly process and allows for differently scaled zones. The seam becomes an active participant in the experience and use of the table.
